Building Automations 1 Practice Test

Occupancy sensing saves energy by letting the BAS tailor HVAC and lighting to actual presence, rather than keeping them on at full or all the time. When sensors detect that a space is empty, lights can turn off or dim, and HVAC can reduce conditioning or ventilation to the minimum needed. This targeted control means energy is used only where and when people are present, which lowers overall consumption. It’s common to also adjust ventilation based on occupancy to avoid wasting outdoor air in unused spaces, and to return to comfortable conditions quickly when someone enters. The other ideas either waste energy (increasing use during peak hours) or don’t directly drive energy savings (storing data for compliance or turning everything off when someone is present), so they don’t capture the same efficiency benefits.
